Immortality vs. life extension

by aepxc

Epicurus once noted that when we exist death is not, and when death exists we are not – that “death is nothing to us”. This is correct, but this does not make life nothing us. The focus, therefore, ought not to be on death-defeating immortality, but on life extension – on the maximisation of opportunities for where we can be.

Death need not be feared, but living ought to be cherished.
