Negative rights

Instead of enumerating the things that can never be taken from a person, perhaps one should enumerate the things than one can never take from anyone (which would then make everyone safe from being so deprived by anyone else).

The standard here seems simple – you never have a right to demand from anyone more than you have given to them. You never have a right to control more resources or control more value than you have produced.

Any such excesses one finds oneself with are either kindness or luck, to the continued benefit of which one has no moral claim.
